Heritage Balm

Instructions for Use

For Metal:

  1. Clean your forged steel item with a wire brush or steel wool to remove any surface rust or dirt and to smooth the surface.

  2. Apply a small amount of Heritage Balm to a lint free cloth and rub into the surface of the steel.

  3. Buff off excess balm with a clean lint free cloth.

*For better results, heat metal item slightly to allow balm to flow into pores.

**For best results, heat metal to about 350F. This will help restore the blackened finish on your forged steel item. Wipe away excess when steel is still warm. (Warning: balm will produce smoke at this temperature, so ensure good ventilation. Great care needs to be taken to avoid burns.)

For Wood Cutting Boards:

  1. Clean cutting board according to manufacturer’s recommendations and dry thoroughly.

  2. Apply Heritage Balm liberally with a lint free cloth or paper towel.

  3. Vigorously rub balm into cutting board. The rubbing will melt the balm and allow it to flow into the pores of the wood.

  4. Wait 10-15 minutes.

  5. Buff off excess with a lint free cloth or paper towel.

For Unfinished Wood:

  1. Apply Heritage Balm liberally with a lint free cloth or paper towel.

  2. Vigorously rub balm into cutting board. The rubbing will melt the balm and allow it to flow into the pores of the wood.

  3. Wait 10-15 minutes.

  4. Buff off excess with a lint free cloth or paper towel.

Heritage Balm FAQ:

  1. What is Heritage Balm made of?

    • Heritage Balm is made from food-grade mineral oil and all-natural mineral oil. Nothing Else.

  2. Why mineral oil?

    • Mineral oil is food safe, just like the oils you normally cook with. The reason we use it instead of typical food oils (olive oil, avocado oil, etc.) is because it won’t go bad. Typical food oils quickly go rancid when exposed to oxygen in the air.

  3. Can I use Heritage Balm on wood that is already finished?

    • Unfortunately, no. Other finishes like polyurethane seal the wood completely, so Heritage Balm would not be able to penetrate the wood and add protection. However, it is safe to use on wood that has only been stained.

  4. What should I do if my Heritage Balm is too hard to apply?

    • Heritage Balm is a lot like butter. If it’s too cold, it will be much harder than if it’s at room temperature. You can warm the tin (make sure the lid is on tight) by holding it in your hands or placing it in a bowl of warm water for 10 minutes. DO NOT MICROWAVE.
